How Does Orthodontic Therapy Work?

After a thorough checkup Dr. Beverly and her team will take pictures, x-rays and bite impressions of your teeth and jaw. After close examination, your Orange County Cosmetic Dentistry will recommend the best orthodontic treatment plan for your condition.

Some of the orthodontic treatments that your cosmetic dentist in Orange County may recommend include:

Conventional Braces-Wires and brackets are connected together and help train your teeth. Braces can be manufactured from clear materials, known as invisible braces, ceramics, or metal.

Facemasks and Headgear-Commonly used to correct an underbite or overbite, facemasks, and headgear are used with conventional braces, and are attached to the braces. Usually worn at night, headgear and facemasks help align your jawbone putting it into the proper position.

Retainers-Your cosmetic dentist in Orange County will design a retainer that you will wear after your orthodontic treatment has been completed. Wearing a retainer helps prevent teeth from moving back to where they used to be. Most patients will wear a retainer until the bone has reformed and gone back to its original position.

Wearing an orthodontic appliance is more than esthetic and can help improve the overall health of your teeth and gums. If you have crooked teeth, you are in the high-risk category for tooth decay and gum disease as misaligned teeth can be difficult to brush and floss.
